Calaveras Elementary School Principal Christine White received the principal of the year award by the Association for School Administrators for the tri-county area, and the educator said she was very humbled, honored and surprised.
White didn’t know she was up for the award until the night of the Spring Fling Dinner when her name was called. Everyone kept it a secret, she said.
“I’ve overcome a lot of obstacles in my life,” she said.
White said her philosophy as a principal is to lead each student to success. White wants to reach every child and help them elevate to their highest abilities, she said.
White has been a principal for three years and said she works especially hard on relationships.
Don Knapp, president of the Association of School Administrators, said that there are four charters in Region 10, which includes Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties. There are 19 different regions statewide, he said.
Knapp said each charter comes with recommendations and those are sent to the next level for consideration. Knapp wasn’t sure how the regional level participants chose the winner for the area, he said.
“It’s a nice award to get,” Knapp said.
