Polish your boots. The San Benito County Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo is coming to Bolado Park next weekend.
But before that, the fun begins this Saturday and Sunday. There’s a memorial roping Saturday to honor the deceased and former rodeo participants, followed by a figure-eight roping competitions Sunday. They start at 8 a.m. both days.
The annual parade ceremonies kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday with the Saddle Horse Parade featuring live music by 8-Second Ride, face painting and a kid’s bounce room. The parade – featuring many breeds of horses along with an array of floats – will head north on San Benito Street then turn west on Fifth Street.
Next Friday, the event moves to Bolado Park with the 75th Annual Saddle Horse Show & Rodeo. Broncs will buck and ropes will fly in this locals-only competition for cash prizes and silver belt buckles.
Mike O’Connell, president of the Saddle Horse Association, said this year’s event is going to be “wild.”
“People are going to see a real rodeo,” he said. “It’s going to be a great event that people can take their whole families to.”
