The San Benito County Board of Supervisors will either get a majority overhaul or a fine-tuning today as voters head to the polls for the primary election.
At least two of the three board races will be decided today because there are only two candidates running in Districts 2 and 5. In District 2, incumbent Supervisor Anthony Botelho faces challenger Anthony Freitas, who lost the race between the two four years ago. In District 5, incumbent Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz faces challanger Marian Cruz, whose husband had held the seat for many years before De La Cruz’s narrow victory in 2004.
In District 1, three candidates are vying to succeed Supervisor Don Marcus, who didn’t seek reelection. Margie Barrios, Grant Brians and Bonnie Flores-Voropaeff are competing for the seat, and if one of the three obtains more than 50 percent of the vote, that candidate would be declared the victor and a runoff wouldn’t be necessary.
