San Benito compiled 216 at four-team meet Monday, finishes

WATSONVILLE
The San Benito girls golf team took second place Monday after they compiled a team score of 216 at a four-team meet at Spring Hills Golf Course in Watsonville, where Yumi Kimura’s 51 paced the Lady ‘Balers.
“They played a tricky golf course,” coach Chris Branon said. “It’s not a long course, but you can hit a good shot, and if it hits the wrong side of the course, it’s gone.
“The golf course probably got the best of them yesterday.”
Salinas was tops in the meet, recording a 191 after medalist Taylor Camany’s 36 led all golfers. Host Monte Vista Christian narrowly missed grabbing second-place from San Benito after they finished with a 218, and Watsonville came in fourth with a team score of 273.
After Kimura’s 51, three Lady ‘Balers each carded a 55 to round out the the scoring for San Benito. Jenny Glosser, Katie Moeller and Nicole Rianda each recorded 55s, while teammates Jordan Davies and Kendall Archer each finished the round with 67s.
Finishing just two strokes short of San Benito was MVC. Despite Caroline Belmont’s 44 to lead the team, MVCs fourth scorer carded a 62.
San Benito will play two matches at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, the Lady ‘Balers will host Live Oak at 3 p.m., and on Thursday, Presentation will visit Hollister for a 3:30 p.m., match. Branon said two of Presentation’s players are nationally-ranked.
