Despite a pair of strong all-around performances from Alyssa Rodriguez and Kelsey Robledo, the Anzar High girls basketball team dropped its third straight game on Tuesday in a 47-34 defeat at home to Soledad.

Rodriguez finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four blocks, while Robledo had 10 points, five boards, four steals and two blocks. But the Hawks couldn’t keep pace with the Aztecs, which downed Anzar for the second time this season.

“We petered out in the third period,” said Anzar head coach Aaron Netzel, whose team trailed 26-19 at halftime but was outscored 14-7 in the third quarter.

“The playoff intensity is gonna be like that game,” Netzel added. “And we’re capable of playing with that team.

“We have to challenge ourselves.”

Anzar’s Allison Baker finished with six points and five rebounds. Sydnee Masuen added four points, four rebounds and three steals.

The Hawks are now 1-4 overall.

Soledad’s Evelyn Diaz led all scorers with 16 points.

“She was their inside presence,” Netzel said. “She had great ball control and she was a handful.”

The Hawks will welcome Greenfield to San Juan Bautista on Thursday night. Tip off is at 6:30 p.m.
