Hollister – A hypodermic needle was found in the middle of Driftwood Street across from a city park Wednesday afternoon, causing concern among neighbors.

Mistee Koch, who lives near the park, found the needle in the 2300 block of Driftwood Street as she was driving home at about 3:45pm. Koch, a teacher and five-year Hollister resident, said she and her husband have seen people loitering and drinking in the park at all hours of the night.

“I happened to find it in the street,” Koch said. “What if it happened to be in the park?”

Police officers collected the needle from Koch and disposed of it, said Officer Rosie Betanio, a spokeswoman for the Hollister Police Department.
