Summer Vacation. The time when teens and kids stay up until their parents yell at them the third time around and sleep in until 11 a.m. Unless you are like me, who has to get up early to go to summer school and practically die of heat exhaustion because the classroom doesn’t have air conditioning.

But for those of you that don’t have summer school, finding things to do can be quite the drag. Summer is a great time to spend with friends, and you don’t have to have a lot of money to do it.

If you drive, your options are pretty much wide open, to a certain extent. You can get a group of friends together, pack a lunch, and head to the beach, though you can’t do it everyday due to the extremely high gas prices. If you don’t have a car, then that’s even harder. Getting friends together to watch movies, listen to music, or just hang out is a great way to pass the time, as well as being cheap. Parks are also a great way to let out the little kid in you. Swings can help relieve stress and relax your body and mind. Indoor athletics are great as well and are even better with a group of people. Take a yoga class, or just dance around. Its great exercise and bonding time as well.

And don’t forget your family, either. A nice family dinner can be a great way to open up and share things with one another. Family game nights are also a great time. Even if your parents are not home during the day because of work, let them know that you still want to spend some time together. On a weekend when you are all free, take a nice hike, go camping, see a movie, or go out for ice cream. All of the above can get your family closer. Take the time this summer to relax and enjoy the simple things in life.

Remember that beating the summer heat is also very important this summer. It has become very hot the past couple of days, and we need ways to keep our own temperatures low. Pools are great ways of keeping cool, but if you don’t have a pool, or a friend who has one, there are some simple ways to beat the heat with out spending too much money. Water balloons are a great way to spend time with your friends, and get drenched in the process. Get a few friends to put their money together and buy some, then go over to a friend’s house and let the good times roll. Sprinklers are an old but nice way to stay cool, as well as just squirting each other with the hose.
