Hollister – The San Benito County Planning Commission tonight will discuss a proposed 44-unit hotel in Tres Pinos.
The meeting marks the fourth time the commission has tried to decide on a requested zoning change and commercial district review. On June 6, commissioners voted 3-2 to deny the project, and they were supposed to confirm the findings justifying their decision on June 20. But the commission delayed the final vote on June 20 and again on July 19.
At the July meeting, Commissioner Dan DeVries said he wanted to wait for hotel opponent Ed Schmidt, who lives next to the proposed site, to return from a trip to Norway.
If approved, the hotel would be built near the intersection of Southside Road and Highway 25. Many Tres Pinos residents have spoken against the plans, saying the hotel would create a safety hazard and ruin their rural community. Other locals have touted possible benefits to the county economy.
The Planning Commission begins at 6pm in the County Administration Building at 481 Fourth St.
