Miami – Daniel Barone made his final start of the 2007 season for the Florida Marlins on Wednesday night, and although the Hollister product received a no-decision in the game, he finished the season at the Major League level.
After Barone was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 8, his goal for the remainder of the season was to remain in the pros and not make the trek back down to the minors.
With the baseball season ending on Sunday, it appears Barone has done just that.
On Wednesday night in Miami, Barone made what will likely be his final appearance of the season. The 2001 graduate of San Benito High School threw 3.2 innings against the Chicago Cubs (83-75), scattered six hits and allowed four earned runs.
Barone also walked a pair and struck out one. His ERA is 5.71.
Barone could not be reached for comment after Wednesday’s game in Miami.
The starting pitcher was relieved by pitcher Ross Wolf in a 4-4 game, and thus, received a no-decision.
The Marlins (68-90) would pocket three more runs in the later innings of the ball game to take home a 7-4 win over Chicago.
The win also subsequently made the Marlins a spoiler, as the Cubs are battling with Milwaukee for the NL Central.
Barone, who made six starts for the Marlins in the shortened season, also came out of the bullpen in 10 games. With an overall ERA of 5.71, Barone’s ERA out of the bullpen was 1.15.
