Hollister – Construction of the State Route 152-156 overpass is proceeding “on time and on budget,” Valley Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Wilson said Thursday.

When complete, the project will include a one-lane overpass for eastbound traffic on Highway 152 and a ramp connecting eastbound 152 to westbound Highway 156, according to a VTA press release. VTA’s schedule calls for project completion in spring 2009.

Construction of the overpass itself will probably start in late November, Wilson said.

“But it will be into the first part of next year when you start actually seeing a structure rise up,” he added.

As with all outdoor construction, workers building the overpass will have to contend with rain as the winter approaches.

“All our projects are weather permitting,” Wilson said. “Our contractors … will do what things they can do. And even with normal weather patterns, we still expect things to finish on time.”

There will be occasional night closures or one-way traffic controls during the weeks of Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, according to the press release. VTA can’t provide more specific information because many of the decisions will be made on the spot, Wilson said.

Wilson noted that the California Department of Transportation is also working on a nearby highway project, the construction of a truck passing lane just west of the future overpass.
