The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Wreaths Across America event Dec. 12 at the Calvary Cemetery.
It is part of Wreaths Across America Day, with more than 1,000 locations participating.
According to a chamber announcement:
On Saturday December, 12th, 2015 members of the San Benito County community will gather together to Honor Veterans during the holiday season as part of the annual Wreaths Across America Day.
The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce has volunteered to conduct the WAA ceremony this year at the Calvary Cemetery on Saturday December 12, 2015 starting at 9:00 am. Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember all soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who served, honor their sacrifices, and teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms.
Specially designated wreaths for the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and POW/MIA will be placed on memorials during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at over 1,000 participating locations all across the Country.
Currently 200 wreaths are slated for delivery to Calvary Cemetery but sponsorships are still available up until November 30th. Sponsorships received after that date will be applied to 2016 events.
In 2015 it is projected that around a million wreaths will be placed nationwide, by over 600,000 volunteers as part of the Wreaths Across America mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach.
Wreaths across America TM (WAA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman, Morrill Worcester, in 1992
