San Benito’s Kevin Burley was named outstanding defensive linemen of the year for the Tri-County Athletic League this season, as he helped anchor a Haybaler rush defense that was one of the stingiest in the league.

Burley was third on San Benito in tackles (53), and also had three fumble recoveries, one fumble forced, one hurry, one sack, three pass blocks and three blocked kicks on point-after attempts in 10 games for San Benito.

In non-league play, Burley had one of his strongest games against Wilcox, a game in which San Benito picked up its first win of the season.

The senior delivered two sacks and recovered two fumbles to help lead the ‘Balers over the Chargers, 13-6.

Burley’s standing as defensive lineman of the year makes him a first-team selection in the TCAL as well, as he was joined by fellow defensive players Robby Sanchez and Ryan Wiltse.

Linebacker Taylor Coustette, though, was named sophomore of the year in the TCAL after finishing with 50 tackles for San Benito, fifth best on the team.

Coustette, a linebacker, also contributed three sacks and an interception on the league season.

Junior defensive lineman Robby Sanchez had 52 tackles in league play this season, fourth best on San Benito. Sanchez was second in sacks for the ‘Balers with four, while he also contributed a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry as well.

Wiltse, a senior for San Benito, led the squad with 65 tackles in 10 games. The linebacker had one pick, one QB hurry and one fumble recovery, while providing three forced fumbles and four pass knockdowns this season.
