Callee Heen knew it was Hawaii-Manoa all the way. Blessed with one of the sweetest swings in the Bay Area, the 5-foot-8 San Benito High senior signed her letter of intent on Nov. 11 to play softball for the Rainbow Wahine.
“This makes it closer to reality, knowing I’ll be leaving next August,” Heen said. “It’s a great feeling that I’ll be playing in college, but I know I’ll have to work that much harder.”
The 5-foot-8 Heen spent years of time in the batting cages to hone a swing that has produced monster numbers in the last two seasons. A year ago, Heen had to overcome an injury, but still managed to hit .511, with three home runs, eight doubles, five triples, three home runs, 31 RBIs, while slugging .811 with an impressive OPS of 1.388.
Heen plays shortstop and first base for the Balers, but will play her natural position of catcher in college. Heady and armed with tremendous physical tools, Heen got noticed in the summer before her sophomore year playing with the Salinas Storm.
