On December 16, 2015, police officers arrested three suspects in possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to cash a stolen check.
At about 3:30 pm on December 16th, Hollister Police Officers responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located inside Nob Hill Store at 1700 Airline Highway for a report of a person attempting to cash a stolen check. As officers responded, they were updated by the Santa Cruz 911 dispatcher that the stolen checks had been in a stolen vehicle reported in the City of Santa Cruz.
Upon arrival, Officer Melgoza was able to locate the stolen vehicle parked directly in front of the Nob Hill Store entrance. The vehicle was occupied by two males, ages 26 and 29.
Several other officers arrived to assist in the apprehension of the two individuals. They were taken into custody without incident.
Officers were then notified of a third male suspect, 27, who had allegedly attempted to cash a stolen check belonging to the owner of the stolen vehicle. The suspect ran from the scene as Sergeant Pershall chased after him on foot. The suspect was apprehended moments later.
The three suspects were transported to the San Benito County Jail where they were booked for possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of a blank check with intent to commit fraud, and making a fictitious check.
The stolen vehicle was later returned to the registered owner.
