Monterey – Anzar opened the Mission Trail Athletic League season on a strong note by beating York 3-0 on the road Monday.

The Hawks’ Olivia Austin, Sara Chatley and Leah Jimenez each found the back of the net in the victory.

“It feels great, we came out and played our game,” first-year coach Deric McLean said. “Every time we do that expect to get a win.”

The Hawks (1-2, 1-0 MTAL) fired 19 shots in the first half while setting the tone that allowed them to get the win.

“My girls played with such intensity, intelligence and consistency that we controlled much of the play,” McLean said.

Deleissegues posted the shutout in her first league game, which featuring a couple of point-blank saves to keep York off the scoreboard.
