Family key to youth

The youth of today is the hope for tomorrow. What will our young people become? Where will they take our country? How important is the family to these questions?

I believe the family is of vital importance in who our youth become. Today’s parents will, in large, determine what this country is and in what direction it will go. The things a child sees and experienced in the first 6 years of life is critical. Hopefully those things will be good and honorable and uplifting. The relationship between spouses in the home is all important. How do they spend their time? What are their priorities and boundaries? Are the children loved? Children fell subtle things that go unsaid between their parents.

At a youth correctional center for boys a few years ago I interviewed some of the inmates. A common thread was that they were from dysfunctional families. Often there was no father in the home, there was drug use in the home, he little ones were not loved nor did they received guidelines about right and wrong.

Are you concerned about your children, our country? Encourage parents with children to understand the importance of being good role models.

Do you know a young parent? Make him aware of the responsibilities and importance of his actions for the sake of the children. Schools should have parenting classes, TV and movies should not belittle family values but encourage integrity and honor.

Parents should know where their children are, who they associate with and what they are doing.

Do something to strengthen the family. Our country is at stake. Do it today.

$10 cover? No worries

I live in Seattle and have been to the Hollister 4th of July Independence Rally twice and intend to go again in 2007 (if there is a rally). I ride down with three or four other Harley enthusiasts. In talking with the aforementioned and others, I don’t see a problem with a $10 per bike charge for the show.

It doesn’t require a degree in high mathematics to comprehend the magnitude of money that adds to the rally. I don’t understand why the multitudes of people involved haven’t come up with a plan to offset the cost.

It really isn’t that complicated folks; I’ll even send my $10 in advance. If you make it voluntary and half of the bikers participate, again it doesn’t require a degree in high mathematics to comprehend the magnitude of money that adds to the rally.

Thank you very much and I hope to see you in July.

Enjoyed daughter’s coverage

I wanted to thank everyone at the Pinnacle for the really nice story that you all put together on our daughter, Amanda. We have received numerous calls from friends and others that live in the area with people’s excitement about the story that you did.

Danielle was wonderful to work with and did a great job interacting with Amanda and her coach and people were very impressed with the photos. The coverage was exciting for all of the people at the rink and the other places where Amanda trains to see – many very impressed that a figure skater got that much press – as that doesn’t always happen at the “up and coming” level of skating … so when it does it is much appreciated!

Anyway, we just wanted to send our thanks to the paper and to John, for his continued work in bringing Amanda’s story to people’s attention – it makes her feel really good and has given her some nice home-town support as she heads off for the last of her qualifying competitions on Monday in Seattle. Thanks so much for being willing to cover her.

It’s time to get to work

Are you listening, City Council? With the election defeats of measures R and S the people of Hollister have spoken. Very loudly we said to the City Council, do your jobs and work for the citizens. Find other alternatives for revenue than sticking it to the people. For those on the City Council, we’ll remember the cost of the waste water treatment plant with no options or alternatives presented to the people of Hollister for a long time.

Regarding measure S, we said we won’t be bullied by developers. If Del Webb truly wanted to partner with Hollister, they wouldn’t have told us to amend the general plan or they are gone. If their method of working with communities is by threats and ultimatums, then good riddance. Let’s grow this city smartly. I believe we are open to development, but we’ve sent a message to our city leaders that we expect and deserve excellence and to not jump at

It’s up to the City Council to come up with workable solutions to our problems and to follow the smart growth plans this city desires.

Rally like Garlic Fest? Please

I hope the rally committee doesn’t believe that trying to associate an outlaw rally with the AT&T (pro-am golf tournament) and the Garlic Festival will convince the citizens of Hollister that they are alike, especially after the shootings in Las Vegas and Sturgis.

My question is will this committee take full responsibility for anyone shot, maimed or raped?

In Hollister I think not. I hope our city council will again vote this event down. I think the mayor’s continued effort to put our city at risk was the reason he lost the election. I hope the rest of the council will take notice.
