Opportunities lost in Measure S
In my opinion, the voters of Hollister were in error by
defeating Measure S. The pluses of the Sun City/Pulte project
exceeded the minuses. Some
”
fine tuning
”
probably could have been done to make the deal. I have
personally inspected several of their projects in California,
Nevada, and Arizona. They have all been extremely successful for
their respective communities.
I have been a resident of San Benito County for nearly 23 years.
My wife and I were active in community affairs. We have been happy
here and pleased by our acceptance by most of the longtime
residents and also becoming friends with newer residents. While my
wife has been deceased for several years, I plan on living out my
remaining years here at Ridgemark.
The proposed project will probably not occur in my lifetime. It
is unlikely that a better project will come along soon that would
provide sewage system funds, road improvements, employment, etc.
The Sun City/Pulte people are proven experts! While most of the
leaders of defeating Measure S are fine people, they are being
shortsighted. This is not the time for procrastination. I believe
that we’re
”
fiddling while Rome is burning.
”
Do we want to be known as the hick town with crooked
politicians, as brought out by recent articles on the front pages
of the San Jose Mercury News?
Most of our politicians are dedicated professionals with concern
for the area’s future. Don’t let a few
”
rotten apples
”
spoil the barrel.
