Editor,
We were dismayed to read the article about the “feud” between Hazel Hawkins Hospital and Calstar (a nonprofit benefit organization), in the Sept. 27 Free Lance.
The hospital wants to charge landing fees of $500 per time to transport critically injured patients who need to go to other hospitals due to a disagreement about hospital personnel being able to have a discount in the fee.
Everyone is invited to join Calstar with a mere $50 per individual per year or $55 per family membership per year and you can be transported at no cost to you. What a bargain! They even have group memberships at $25 per year, per family for groups or businesses of five or more people (a mere 50 cents per week, the price of only a candy bar!).
If you are traveling out of this area, there are reciprocal partners who can transport you or a family member if you need critical care and emergency air support after an accident. Cal Star can be reached at 1-888-207-LIFE (5433).
We’d like to see the “feud” resolved for the benefit of this community.
