Editor,

Regarding your coverage of the City Council meeting discussion about the issues surrounding the Fourth of July Rally, I certainly sympathize with the Police Chief’s dilemma of providing protection for this event while still protecting the community.

I attended this year’s event along with eight friends. We all rode down from Oregon just for the Rally. As a law enforcement officer, I was very impressed with the level of organization at your Rally. The people working the event were friendly and the crowds well behaved. With this number of people in one place, you will always have a few knuckleheads causing trouble. In all, I felt safe and saw a high level of police presence. I commend the Council for wanting to look at all aspects of the Rally before making a final decision. My hope is the Rally continues, especially since I already have my motel room reserved for 2006!
