“I would like to know how many of our Hollister citizens noticed the uncaring way that the two ‘Tony’s’ Monday night could not look at all the employees that they have decided to layoff.

I would like to know how you come up with a plan but then tell the public that we cannot ask what their plan is after they lay off all these employees.

And who’s the idiot that stated on Channel 8 News that public safety would not be effected by the layoffs? Mr. Mayo, that was you and don’t bother trying to back pedal and say that’s not what you said because that is exactly what you said.

How do you as a council justify having a police chief and two captains (one of which was qualified to run for sheriff but not qualified to be given a chance as police chief) and you are laying off the fire chief who is the Hollister Fire Department’s only leader? Oh let me guess. You are going to repeat history and make more stupid decisions to maybe put the police chief in charge of all? Let me remind you that did not work before!

I commend Pauline and Robert for wanting to do more research before laying off loyal employees.

And one last question: Mr. City Manager, where do you pay your property taxes? We all know it’s not here! How can you effectively run a city you won’t even commit to living in? If you ask me, you leaving would be money in the bank!”

“In response to Citizens Voice on Jan. 9: Someone actually saw the city tree trimmers? Were they just riding around in our vehicles (taxpayers pay for government vehicles) or doing real work?

Even in winter, I continue walking everyday and the tulip and mulberry trees are still out of control on West, Monterey, Haydon, Hawkins, Powell, A, B and Suiter streets, just to name a few.

I’m not sure if the city crew is afraid of the trees or plain lazy, but this is a perfect time to tackle them. They’ve lost all their leaves so navigating through the limbs and branches should be no problem.”

“My family and I enjoy going to the Inn at Tres Pinos. It’s a very nice, four star, most expensive restaurant yet it is very disappointing to find such a fine restaurant lacking a sufficient paved parking lot.

One comes in a cloud dust and leaves in a cloud of dust. One plans an anniversary party or whatever special occasion, dressing up for a beautiful evening, etc, then have to trod through all the gravel and dust in high heels and nice evening wear.

What a shame that such a restaurant – expensive, well known and four star – would have such a dirty parking lot and then if there’s no parking, you need to park your car on the side of the road getting dirty as you get out of your car.

The other restaurants in that area all have a paved parking lot. Also, all the restaurants and eateries in Hollister have paved parking lots. What’s up?”

“The TV guide, included with the Friday Free Lance, is a nice feature. It would be nicer still if the station numbers listed were correct for Hollister. A simple single row of numbers would accomplish this much needed improvement.”
