The San Benito wrestling team defeated Salinas, 59-23, Tuesday in a tuneup for the Tri-County League finals, which will also be held at Salinas on Saturday.

Coach Matt Olejnik said he expects many of his wrestlers to be seeded going in.

“It should work out to be close to a dual meet with us and Gilroy with a sprinkle of Salinas here and a Palma guy there,” Olejnik said.

Almost all the matches won by Salinas and San Benito were by pin. The only match that wasn’t a pin or a forfeit was Matt De La Rosa’s technical fall win in the 215-pound class.

“A lot of times that is how it will work out when there aren’t a lot of head-to-head quality matches going on,” Olejnik said. “They had four or five kids that were really good, and they happened to match up against some of our younger kids to get an early lead.”

Both Bruce Butler (103) and Bob Glashan (112) were pinned to put the Balers in a 12-0 hole. At 125, Andrew Sandoval was also pinned.

Chris Mora (119), Chris Uribe (130) and Anthony Sunseri (135) pinned their opponents.

Octavio Lucatero, at 140, received a forfeit. After Evan Rodriquez was pinned in the 145-pound match, the score was tied. But that was the last match the Cowboys could win.

Alex Diaz (152), Nick Carpenter (160), Alejo Velasquez (171) and Ryan Dunn (189) all recorded pins. Heavyweight Tito Flores received a forfeit win.
