Egg hunt: The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 and its ladies auxiliary will sponsor their annual Easter egg hunt for children ages 2 to 10 Saturday, April 10, at Veterans Memorial Park on Memorial Drive.

Children age 2 to 4 will hunt for eggs on the Little League fields in the center of the park; ages 5 to 7 on the softball fields directly across from the entrance; and ages 8 to 10 on the Babe Ruth field at the park’s north end. All fields will have eggs marked with prize money. Eggs should be checked before leaving the event.

Parents are asked to stay off the fields so the kids can have fun and to arrive early.

Easter egg hunt: The fourth annual Easter egg hunt will be at San Justo Reservoir Saturday, April 10, beginning at 10 a.m. Event is free. Parking fee is $5. For more information, call (831) 638-3300.

Symphony group: The Hollister Symphony Group bus departs from Dunne Park promptly at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, April 8, for San Francisco. They are starting a new season in November and welcome new members. For more information, call Michele Stephenson at (831) 637-9543.

Republican meeting: The San Benito County Republican Central Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at the Hollister Library, 470 Fifth St. Guest speakers will be Tony Bruscia, John Sarsfield and Assembly District Candidate Bob Perkins. Crabapples perform: The Crabapples will provide music for the Aromas Community Grange’s monthly contra dance on Saturday, April 10. the Crabapples have become an institution in the Monterey Bay Area. Calling and teaching will be Warren Blier, who has a reputation for providing interesting dance programs designed to please both newcomers and regular dancers. An optional beginner’s orientation is available at 7:15 p.m. The dance begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. and lasts until 10:30 p.m. There is an $8 donation at the door. The Aromas Grange hall is located at the corner of Rose and Bardue streets in Aromas. Comfortable, light clothing and comfortable, flat, soft-soled shoes are recommended. AARP Driver Safety: A refresher classroom course for drivers over the age of 50. The eight-hour course will be held for Hollister residents at the Hollister Elks Lodge 1436, 351 Astro Drive, on April 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. both days. BLM workshop: The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a workshop on Wednesday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hollister Field Office, 20 Hamilton Court, to discuss the fiscal year 2005 off-highway vehicle grant proposal for the Clear Creek Management Area. The grant provides funds for costs directly related to planning, managing and coordinating the OHV program in the Clear Creek Management Area. Preschool: The Hollister Methodist United Church Preschool will be holding registration for the 2004-05 school year on Thursday, April 15, for returning and waiting list students beginning at 8 a.m. Alumni families (families who have attended the school before) will begin registering at noon. New families to the school will register on Friday, April 16, beginning at 8 a.m. Registration is done on a first come, first serve basis. Classes are offered for children 3 to 5 years of age. Prevention: The next San Benito Prevention Coalition meeting will be Thursday, April 15 at 6 p.m. at the Dunne Park Clubhouse at the corner of West and Sixth streets.

Scholarship: Applications for the 2004 Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Award are available. Each year the Auxiliary awards scholarships to students who are pursuing a medical or medically oriented career. To be eligible you must be a high school graduate, resident of San Benito County for a minimum of one continuous year and apply by April 16. A list of eligibility rules and an applications are available in the lobby at Hazel Hawkins Hospital, at SBHS, Gavilan College or call Frankie Valent in the hospital’s public relations office at 636-2644.
