GILROY – Sunday evenings just got even better with Gilroy Community Services’ Summer Concerts in the Park series starting June 13.
The concerts take place every second Sunday through September 12 at Christmas Hill Park from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Coming back for their third year, The Corvairs kick off the series with a diverse mix of tunes from a previous era.
The concert series has been a popular weekend activity for more than 25 years, said Cultural Arts and Museum Supervisor, Cathy Mirelez. In previous years, as many as 500 to 800 people have attended each concert.
Concessions such as popcorn, nachos and soda will be available, and concert-goers are welcome to bring picnic dinners. Proceeds from the concession stand will benefit the Gilroy Youth Center.
Acts will play on the park’s amphitheater.
On July 11, the old school Funk, Soul, Dance and R&B band, Juz Cuz, will play. August 8 will feature Santana tribute band Ritmo while country band Silver Creek will play on September 12.
“We try to get a nice selection of music, to have something for everyone’s tastes,” said Mirelez.
This year’s series is sponsored by Goldsmith Seeds, Inc., South Valley Disposal and Recycling, Inc., Gilroy Foundation, Gilroy Target and Gilroy Rotary Club. The series costs about $5,000 for band fees, publicity and staffing.
