With just two days before school begins, Hollister School District will hold a special meeting Friday morning to confirm and announce the new principal at Gabilan Hills School, and re-assign other administration positions.
Along with a new principal at Gabilan Hills, who will replace former Principal Diane Campbell who was re-assigned to the district office, HSD moved Rancho San Justo Middle School Vice Principal Karen Twadell there as well.
“During budget cuts, we agreed to remove one vice principal position from the junior high schools, leaving them with one-and-a-half each,” Board President Dee Brown said. “We’re not sure exactly if the position will become a half-time principal/counselor, or move between the schools. We haven’t decided on that yet.”
Along with different administrators, many students will see different teachers than originally planned. Because of the change in classroom size jumping to 35 students to one teacher, and more than 40 teachers who may not return to HSD, the district had to moved a lot of teachers to different school sites and different grade levels.
“We’ve had to do quite a bit of shuffling around,” Brown said.
The meeting will be held at R.O. Hardin School, and after it comes to a close, teachers and administrators will have a welcome back to school work day, where they will prepare for the arrival of their students on Monday. Because it is a public meeting, there will be a public comment session, and concerned parents are allowed to attend to hear the board’s results.
