Hollister – A strong Coyote Creek lineup of teams came dominated their hosts on Saturday and shut down the Vikings offenses at all levels for three victories.

Coyote Creek Wildcats 14, Hollister Vikings 0
Coyote Creek’s swarming defense overwhelmed Hollister to register a shut out win, breaking Hollister’s two-game winning streak.
The Wildcats had given up just one score in their last three games. Coyote Creek frustrated the air game with a strong pass rush, leaving it up to the Hollister defense to create chances.
The defense came through in a big way. Hollister had four takeaways to Coyote Creek’s one.
Adolfo Davila recovered a fumble on Coyote Creek’s first possession, and Ryan DiSalvo stripped the ball from a Wildcat runner on the second possesion.
DiSalvo also recovered two more fumbles in the second half.
None of the turnovers occurred in the Coyote Creek end zone, and the offense couldn’t capitalize to score.
The Viking defense had help from punter Nathan Castro, who hit several long punts to keep Coyote Creek far from their goal line. His best effort went for 30 yards.
Hollister’s defense allowed just one score all day.
In the second quarter, the Wildcat halfback broke free down the left sideline on a play that fooled most of the Hollister defense.
Linebacker Mark Neal caught the runner from behind to make a touchdown-saving tackle, but Coyote Creek scored three plays later to take a 7-0 lead.
Coyote Creek’s other touchdown was scored by its defense late in the game when they pounced on a Hollister fumble in the end zone.
Pee Wee
Coyote Creek Wildcats 12, Hollister Vikings 7
Coyote Creek’s defense set up both of the team’s touchdowns to hand the Hollister Pee Wees their first defeat.
The Wildcat defense made its presence felt right from the start as they pinned Hollister back deep on their first possession, forcing the Vikings to punt from their end zone.
They nearly blocked the kick and forced a sideways punt that went out of bounds on the 15-yard line. But Coyote Creek moved the ball down field and scored to go up 6-0.
Unable to move on the ground, the Vikings tried the pass. Quarterback Trevor Fabing hit Alex Alvarez for a 16-yard gain.
But Coyote Creek quickly adjusted and forced another punt.
Hollister got back in the game early in the second quarter when Alvarez broke free on a 60-yard run to even the score.
A pass from Fabing to Justin Raine gave the Vikings the extra point, and put them on top 7-6.
For awhile, it looked like Hollister might have all the points they needed. The Viking defense, spearheaded by leading tackler Jonathan Huaracha, stopped Coyote Creek.
Conner Stevens and Isaak Ramos also made many stops at or behind the line of scrimmage, and Adrian Soto recovered a fumble.
But Coyote Creek’s defense forced pinned the Vikings back deep again late in the third quarter and forced a fumble that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown, giving the Wildcats a 12-7 lead that they would hold.
Joshua Greenwood’s 20-yard kick return fired up the Hollister crowd but couldn’t fire up the offense.
Matt Martinez recovered a fumble near midfield for the Vikings. And the offense finally got going as Greenwood’s fourth down run moved Hollister to the Wildcat 25-yard line.
But Coyote Creek got an interception on the next play to end the drive.
The Wildcats failed to run out the clock, giving Hollister one more opportunity on the Wildcat 20 with twelve seconds to play.
But the Wildcats had another interception to end the Vikings comeback effort.
Midget
Coyote Creek Wildcats 28, Hollister Vikings 0
A strong Coyote Creek defense shut out the Vikings, 28-0.
Coyote Creek scored on the opening kickoff with an 80-yard return.
All three of the Wildcats other scores also came on long runs or returns. However, the Viking defense did not allow Coyote Creek to drive during the game.
Hollister’s defense, led by linebacker Ricky Canes, came up big during the game. David Jacquez made an open-field tackle on a completed pass to save a first down in the first quarter, and cornerback Eric Sanders broke up several pass plays.
Nick Craft, Furry Lopez and Rudy Rudolfs and Adrian Hernandez also made several big tackles in the game.
Late in the game, the Viking offense got going. Ethell Catherill had a 30-yard run to take the ball inside the Wildcat 20.
Two more good runs by Anthony Flores moved the ball to the 2-yard line, but time expired before Hollister could run another play.
Mighty Mite
The Mighty Mite team had the strongest game on Saturday as they continued to run the ball. The defense also stepped up in a big way to make critical plays throughout the game.
In the first quarter, Hollister refused to share the ball with the Wildcats. Dylan Lomanto recovered an onside kick to start the game, and Austin Nye recovered another onside kick later in the quarter.
Good runs by Eddie Munoz and Mike Inderbitzen gave Hollister a first-and-goal, and Lomanto crossed the goal line on the next play.
Munoz showed great moves throughout the game. His twisting, tackle-breaking runs produced good yardage on several occasions.
One of his runs got the ball inside the five, and Marcus Darnell plunged into the end zone on the next play.
When the Wildcats finally got the ball, the defensive heroics began.
Josh George made an interception to stop an early Coyote Creek drive. And Munoz, Nye, and Tyler Fhurong made big backfield tackles to force losses as well.
Chris Cook started the second half by taking a handoff on the kickoff return and racing 30 yards up the left sideline.
Cook also contributed several long runs from scrimmage and big tackles in the game. In the second half, Brody Benitez recovered a fumble.
Johnny Corral and Austin Ledesma made several tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and Garrett Amidon made a saving tackle the only time a Wildcat runner broke free.
In the fourth quarter, Nye had another strong run, racing 42 yards to score. The Vikings also worked on their passing attack late in the game. Lomanto caught a pass from quarterback Austin Wahl.
The Junior Midget Vikings had a bye on Saturday. Hollister teams play perhaps their biggest games of the season on Saturday as they take on the West Bay Rams. The Rams and Vikings have met in playoff matchups three times in the last two years. Games begin at 11 am.
