The traditionally stronger Balers won six of seven matches to go with seven forfeits and bring back a 75-5 walkover.

Three Balers pinned their opponent – Octavio Lucatero (135 pounds), Joe Verissimo (103) and Alejo Velasquez (152).

Velasquez, who has been out for most of the season, will get some much-needed work this weekend at a tournament at Mission San Jose this weekend.

Two girls will represent the Balers at the state meet in Vallejo this weekend – senior Deborah Ruiz (123) and sophomore Yolanda Diaz (121). Ruiz placed last year.

“Deborah’s been there before so she should do fairly well,” said Baler head coach Matt Olejnik. “Yolanda’s still young so it’s good for her to get the experience.”

The Balers have their last Tri-County Athletic League dual match next Thursday at home vs. Live Oak. Hollister hosts the T-CAL tourney Feb. 15. The Central Coast Section tourney is Feb. 21-22 at Independence High School in San Jose.
