Tammy Ballew's dog Bailey plays catch with her owner at the airport park.

The city is naming its dog park after the late Jerry Gabe, an aircraft enthusiast who spent much of his free time at the neighboring airport.
Hollister council members unanimously approved the name change at their meeting Monday night. The park is now known as Jerry Gabe Memorial Park, while the city will order new signs at a cost of $2,000 from the airport budget.
Gabe, a Bronx, N.Y. native, was active at the Hollister Municipal Airport for more than four decades and served on the city’s airport commission from 2003 to 2005 as well.
The council report on the matter noted that Gabe was fond of animals, especially his two dogs.
