The Anzar High girls soccer team ended its season on an up note Wednesday. The Hawks flew past visiting Pacific Grove 3-1 in the final Mission Trail Athletic League match of the year.
Anzar’s final ledger was 5-12-3 overall and 5-11-2 in league.
Freshman Sarah Wisotsky drilled a penalty kick into the back of the net for the Hawks’ other goal. Hawks coach Jesse Martinez credited Lesley Densmore, who had eight saves, for “stellar play in goal.”
The future looks bright with some good players returning next season. Freshman LeAnna Nicholson has been a scoring machine of late for the Hawks. Nicholsonm, who led the team in scoring with 10 goals and five assists, had two goals against the Breakers and had the Hawks’ lone goal in a 2-1 loss to York on Monday.
Three seniors – Teryn Stone, Amanda Camphouse and Corina Forson – played their last game for the Hawks. Unfortunately, junior Crystal Dudoit, who had an assist Wednesday, also played her last game for Anzar. Dudoit is transferring to Gilroy next year.
“The team really came to depend on Dudoit for leadership this season, especially the younger players” said Martinez. “I rewarded her by designating her team captain midway through the season. She will be sorely missed for her leadership as well as her soccer ability.”
