Citizens and officials responsible for Hollister’s General Plan will meet April 26, when input from the Community Visioning Workshop will help formulate ideas for policy makers writing the planning document.
The workshop, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at San Benito High School’s O’Donnell Gym, will include Community Development Director Bill Card, the project consultant and “whatever city staff we can round up,” according to Card, who is leading the city’s first General Plan update since 1995.
Saturday’s meeting will be the first of four like it throughout the year.
The General Plan is Hollister’s top policy document on growth. It includes seven main elements that lay out future development for the city. The consultant hired in late 2002 is Moore, Iacofano, Goltsman, Inc.
Card, who was also involved in the 1995 update, has emphasized a desire for a significant increase in public involvement.
“Come to our workshop,” he said. “We need all the public input we can get.”
He said he hopes for “a lot bigger” turnout than at the General Plan’s first Steering Committee meeting April 8. The Steering Committee, which is made up of planning commissioners and citizens, will meet a maximum of 10 times during the year-long process.
“If nobody shows up and complains, we get the idea that everything is fine,” Card said. “No doubt, there are issues in the community we need to solve together.”
After a 30-minute sign-up period with refreshments, the workshop will include a short presentation and an agenda, which will be handed out at the meeting.
“What are people’s visions for the future of Hollister?” Card said. “What kinds of things would you like to see in the future? Where can the city provide more services?”
