Kathy Wake replaced Marc J. Henry as head golf pro at San Juan Oaks on April 1, just nine days after her official final day as long-time head pro at Ridgemark Golf Club. Henry left to pursue other interests in Monterey, his hometown.

“Kathy brings to us a unique combination of business savvy, a genuine caring for people and a strong sense of customer service,” stated San Juan Oaks General Manager Scott Fuller. “We feel very fortunate that San Juan Oaks was able to attract someone of Kathy’s ability, experience and professionalism to our organization. The fact that she has achieved both national recognition and is so know and respected locally speaks highly of her abilities and character.”

Raised in Hollister, Wake learned the game of golf on Hollister’s local golf courses. Wake graduated from Cal Poly University at Pomona with a degree in Physical Education in 1986. Wake apprenticed as an assistant pro at Spyglass Hill GC in Pebble Beach. After an apprentice stint at Ridgemark, she was named head pro at the club in 1991. Wake is co-founder of the of the Northern California Women’s Cup matches which have been held annually in Northern California since 1997. One of her many achievements has was being bestowed the National LPGA Professional of the Year Award. She is currently serving as Vice President of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals of the Western Section.

“I’m excited about working with the San Juan Oaks team,” said Wake. “I’ve had a good relationship with the Hollister community and the people here are important to me. This is my home.”

Wake received a call from Fuller after the departure of Henry. At the time, Wake was in the midst of interviewing with The Villages in San Jose and Lincoln Hills in Sacramento. She was a top five candidate for The Villages and was receiving strong consideration from Lincoln Hills.

“I was attracted to Lincoln Hills because they’re expanding to 36 holes from 18 holes. That’s what I’m excited most of all about San Juan Oaks is the possible expansion here. I’m also excited about being able to teach and develop the Jr. program.”

Wake’s top assistant is Pat Larkin.

“I’m looking forward to working with Pat and making this a better program,” said Wake.

“Kathy’s very professional,” added Fuller.
