One of the successes that I have had with students is breaking the swing down to a six-count.

The putting/chipping stroke backswing and follow through would be one-and-two. The pitching stroke (waist-high back to waist-high through) would be three-and-four.

The full swing back and through would be five-and-six.

If you take your practice swings and slowly begin with the one-and-two then three-and-four and finall five-and-six and hold your follow through on six for five seconds.

What will happen is your focus will now be on completing each of the strokes and not just on meeting the ball.

You will find that you will have a better tempo with your shots and be able to get through the ball rather than just to the ball.
