Hollister Little League is holding its second annual Mothers Day Dinner-Dance fundraiser Saturday at the Bolado Park Pavilion.

The adults-only event begins at 6 p.m. and runs until midnight. Cost is $25 per person, which includes a tri-tip buffet and dancing to ’70s & ’80s music by the Hitmen.

“They’re the real draw,” said league treasurer Mike Winn. “It’s a 10-piece band that’s absolutely fantastic. Lots of horns and music by K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire.”

Winn said last year’s event was held at the Hollister Elks Lodge, but the dance floor was too crowded. So league officials decided to move the fundraiser to Bolado Park.

“We needed a bigger area because there were no songs you didn’t want to dance to,” he said. “Last year was our first one and we didn’t get crowd that we had hoped for. We had about 150 people show up. I think we’ll do pretty good this year.”

About 200 tickets have been sold so far, Winn said, and the league expects to sell another 50 to 100 before the event.

Part of the night’s activities include a motor bike raffle and a silent auction.

Proceeds go toward improvements to the three Little League fields at Veterans Memorial Park. In the last year, the league spent $70,000 on improvements such as new fencing and sun shades and renovating the backstops and dugouts.

“One backstop cost us $14,000 and over $12,000 was spent on the professional-style below-ground dugout,” Winn said. “We’re still putting in the batting cages and should be completed soon.”

The money also goes towards upkeep of the fields.

“People assume the county and the city does it, but we do it,” Winn said. “We do all the lawn maintenance, even mowing the lawn.”

Each year before the 4th of July, the league has a fireworks booth that Winn said brings in a “good amount” of money. Other regular fundraisers include a candy sale, which is going on now, and a bat-a-thon in which sponsors pledge money for every foot a player hits a ball in three swings.

Winn said the league has $40,000 put away to go toward building a multi-purpose room where the league’s board of directors and team coaches can meet and where player registration can be held each year.
