The San Benito County Babe Ruth League 13 year-old All-Stars met up with a Bel Passi team hell-bent on vengeance Wednesday night at the District 1 Tournament held in Modesto. Two Bel Passi hurlers combined to no-hit the SBC 13’s and eliminate them in the process in a 3-0 shutout. It was the second consecutive loss in two nights for SBC 13’s. They lost a tough 5-4 game to Oakdale on Tuesday night.
“We were tired and drained,” said SBC 13 manager Joey Escamilla. “I’m proud of the way the kids played. We took third out of seven teams. I’m looking forward to next year.”
Two SBC players walked – Brett Pirtle and Nathan Hopkins – for the only baserunners of the game for SBC.
In the loss to Oakdale, the contingent from Hollister rallied from four runs down to tie the game with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Nick Huston, Roman Miranda and Hopkins were all walked to load the bases. Wade Jacobson had a two-run single. Joey Escamilla knocked in two more runs with another single.
Oakdale took advantage of a balk call on the SBC pitcher in the top of the seventh to score the winning run.
The SBC 14 stars were defeated by Bel Passi 12-7 and must beat Modesto tonight at 5:30 p.m. to stay alive. It was a hard loss for Kraig Klauer’s club for they led 6-1 after the first three innings.
“We just fell apart,” said Klauer. “Bel Passi is a solid, well-coached club. Whenever they get a runner to second base, they seem to come up with an RBI single.”
Klauer is concerned about his pitching depth.
“Isaiah Zamorez came in and threw four innings to keep us in the game,” said Klauer. “But now I’ve used him up.”
Alex Huerta is expected to start for the SBC 14’s tonight against Modesto.
