Three adults and a teenager, who were reportedly caught red-handed robbing a friend’s home in the 1500 block of Valley View Road, were charged with felony burglary charges Monday.

Jose Juan Lomeli, 29, of Hollister, Daniel Ortiz, 23, of San Jose, and Pearl Cerrena Pettie, 20, of Hollister were arraigned in San Benito County Superior Court on Monday on charges of first-degree burglary and a special allegation for commission of a crime as part of street gang activities.

If Lomeli, Ortiz and Pettie are tried and convicted on both charges, they could be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison, according to the state penal code.

A 17-year-old Hollister boy, who was allegedly part of the burglary operation, is also facing felony theft charges, but it is unclear whether the district attorney’s office will try the youth as an adult or in juvenile court. The youth’s name was not released by police because of his age.

Superior Court Judge Steven Sanders arraigned Lomeli, Ortiz and Pettie and ordered them to be held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Lomeli, Ortiz, Pettie and the youth were arrested by the Hollister Police Department on Friday after they were reportedly caught speeding away from the scene of the burglary in the 1500 block of Valley View Road, police said.

The quartet was allegedly spotted at approximately 12:42 a.m., removing numerous personal items from the front window of an apartment, police said.

Neighbors became suspicious when they realized the front window had been broken and the screen pulled off, so they called 911 to report the activity and the dark colored older model sedan Lomeli, Ortiz, Pettie and the youth were allegedly fleeing in.

San Benito County Deputy Sgt. Scott Becker and Deputy Bryan Penny, who were in the area, saw the sedan speeding away from the scene. They relayed its position to Hollister Police Sgt. James Weathers and Officer Andrew Tully who stopped the sedan a short distance later and took all four into custody, police said.

Lomeli, Ortiz and Pettie were all referred to public defenders and are scheduled to be back in court for continued arraignment Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
