Center Sarah Groman, fresh out of volleyball, went off for 14 points to lead the Balers (1-1). Naomi Ruiz and Jennifer Tremblay had 10 points each, while Trisha Lee had eight for Richard Silva’s club. Guard Gina Caianiello had eight assists.
“The girls made better choices this game,” said Silva, who wasn’t enamored with the Balers’ opening season loss to Watsonville. “We were more consistent with our execution. We set the tempo and were much better with our entry pass to the post.”
Tremblay played solid off the bench. In fact, the Balers put the game away with a lineup of Lee, Caianiello, Tremblay, Ruiz and Groman.
“Those five really clicked together,” said Silva.
Silva credited sophomore Kristina Osborne with an athletic play when she ran back on the defensive end and blocked a shot, getting a rouse from the Baler crowd.
“Our job’s not done,” said Silva. “We’re playing it one game at a time.”
