After several years of golfing with the same group of friends, I think I’ve created some monsters.
During some recent rounds, each one at one time or another, has hit some remarkable sand shots. After said shot they point at me and say “I used my pitching wedge instead of my sand wedge that time. Just like you told me.”
Now I’m seeing shots from under the trees, over trees, one-putts which used to be three-putts, etc.
All the while, I am paying them at the end of the round.
They, on the other hand, are having a great time. Once they start seeing how certain practice routines pay off for them, they are now practicing with a purpose.
The long game is important, but also fickle. The short game and trouble shots can save a really bad day.
