Spanish miquelets are shown from the San Juan Bautista city website.

The Plaza History Association is hosting a special exhibit where volunteers in period dress display firearms more than a century old.
“It is all antique firearms,” said Nikki Combs, the state park interpreter for the San Juan Bautista State Historic Park. “These are items that are owned by volunteers here at the San Juan Bautista State Park so they’re putting their private collection here on display.”
This is the second year the association has held the exhibit, which will be hosted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Plaza Hotel Saloon on Second Street between Washington and Mariposa streets.
The firearms are between 150 and 170 years old and date back to the time of the War with Mexico from 1846-1848.
That Saturday is also a Living History Day, meaning people will dress as Civil War soldiers, Victorian ladies and mountain men to celebrate the early days of San Juan Bautista.
The exhibit is free, but visiting the rest of the park—including the Plaza Stables, the rest of the Plaza Hotel, the Castro-Breen Adobe and the Zanetta Home —will cost $3. For more information, call Combs at (831) 623-4881.
