The San Benito golfing team earned its second consecutive match win against a Monterey Bay League opponent Monday, beating Christopher 197-255 at San Juan Oaks Golf Course.

“Yesterday, we played really well,” SBHS head coach Reggie Synegal said. “I think the team is really coming together.”

Ryan Han shot a match low of 35, or 1-under par. Aaron Smith, Nick Caputo and Greg Moreno all shot a 40 to give the Balers the win. Rob Smith finished with a 42.

“They are all playing really good golf right now,” Synegal said.

SBHS tennis

The Balers lost their fifth consecutive match to open the season Monday, falling to Carmel 7-0.

No. 1 single player Andrew Panger couldn’t keep pace with Carmel’s Nick Carffino and lost 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 player Sunny Singh fell to Nick Combs 6-2, 6-1. The Balers third and fourth single players did fare much better, as Nick Trillo lost 6-0, 6-1 and Aaron Francis lost 6-1, 6-2.

San Benito’s doubles partners kept the score a little closer but couldn’t overcome the defending MTAL champion Carmel. Erick Diaz and Chris Godbout fell 6-4, 6-1. Christian Granados and Rafa Alfaro lost by a score of 6-3, 6-2.

The final double partners of Jordan Cortez and Andrew Regalado lost 6-2, 6-2.
