The Hollister Veterans of Foreign Wars is hosting its annual essay contest for middle school students, and the entry deadline is Nov. 1.

The winner of the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest locally will receive a $200 check, and runner-ups will get $25 each. It’s open to those in grades 6-8 who are in public school, private school or home-schooled.

Entry forms are available at vfw.og or the county office of education, 460 Fifth St. The theme in 2016 is “The America I Believe In”. Contest Chairman Bob Burnham can come talk about it at schools, or else reach him at (831) 638-1703.
