Hollister Police arrested a man Oct. 22 for drunkenly crashing his vehicle into a gas and water line after angrily shouting at officers at the county jail while they were booking his father for an earlier offense, according to authorities.
About 10:45pm Oct. 22, Hollister Police Officer Miguel Masso responded to a report that suspect Francisco Zendejas had violated a restraining order on the 300 block of Paul Drive in south Hollister, reads a press release from Hollister PD. Police had been called to the residence several times over the previous week for the same reason.
Zendejas “has a very long history of disturbing neighbors,” police said. He currently has a court order prohibiting him from being within 100 yards of his neighbor’s home; thus he is prohibited from being at the residence on Paul Drive.
When Zendejas’ father, Samuel Zendejas, answered the door Oct. 22, he told Masso that Francisco was not there but he had been at the home earlier, police said. Masso attempted to write a citation for Samuel Zendejas for allowing the nuisance and restraining order to continue. However, Samuel refused to cooperate and attempted to run back into his home.
The elder Zendejas then physically resisted the officer’s efforts to detain him, ultimately leading to his arrest, according to authorities. The officer transported Samuel to San Benito County Jail for booking.
Later that night, Francisco Zendejas arrived outside the jail’s gates on Flynn Road and began yelling at officers who were in the process of booking his father, police said. As officers asked the jail staff to open the gate to contact Francisco, he ran to a nearby truck and sped away at a high rate of speed.
Francisco, allegedly intoxicated, fled southbound on the jail road, failed to turn at Flynn Road and hit a natural gas line and a water line on the south side of Flynn Road, according to police. The road and surrounding area were shut down for four hours until crews repaired the leaks.
After police took Francisco into custody, he spat at and attempted to bite officers and paramedics, police said.
Samuel Zendejas was booked on suspicion of maintaining a public nuisance and obstruction, according to police. Francisco Zendejas was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. He was cited and released on suspicion of battery of an EMT, driving under the influence, obstructing an officer and driving on a suspended license.
