With the help of a public safety camera system alert, Hollister Police on May 5 arrested a suspect who was wanted in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon investigation, authorities said.
On May 3, police responded to the 1100 block of San Felipe Road in Hollister regarding a reported assault. During the investigation, police determined that Sylvia Gonzalez, 44, had attempted to hit her ex-boyfriend with a vehicle while he was riding a bicycle nearby, Hollister Police said in a press release.
According to police, Gonzalez drove dangerously close to the victim as he was riding his bicycle. The victim then stepped off the bicycle but remained holding onto the handlebars when Gonzalez allegedly drove back toward him, striking the bike.
The bicycle became lodged underneath the vehicle and was dragged a short distance before Gonzalez reversed, dislodged the bicycle, and fled the scene, police said. The victim was not injured.
As part of the investigation, officers entered the suspect vehicle’s license plate information into the city’s FLOCK Camera System, says the press release. At about 2am May 5, 2026, Hollister Police Sgt. Bo Leland received an alert indicating the vehicle had been detected on the north side of town.
Leland responded to the area, located the vehicle on Santa Ana Road, conducted a traffic stop and ultimately arrested Gonzalez without incident, says the press release.
Gonzalez was booked at San Benito County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
“Technology such as the FLOCK Camera System plays an important role in helping our officers identify suspects and solve crimes,” said Hollister Police Chief Carlos Reynoso. “In this case, the quick coordination between technology and officer response allowed us to safely locate and arrest a violent suspect before anyone else could be harmed.”
