Gilroy – Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has been waiting quite some time for this day. The most awaited day of his life is coming Sept. 2 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles when he will take on Eric Aiken for the IBF featherweight world championship.
“It’s a chance of a lifetime,” Guerrero said. “I’m planning on bringing it home.”
Guerrero said he’s not going to train any different for this fight than any other before it. Why change what has brought him to this point?
The talk surrounding the fight has already begun and Aiken has stated he’s not scared of facing The Ghost. But Guerrero shrugged off the comment and said it’s good Aiken’s not scared because that means he’s ready to fight.
Guerrero did say, however, that he’s not going in to fight for the world title, he’s going in to win the world title.
“The difference is that those (boxers) that go in to fight only have a 50-50 chance of winning,” he said. “But when you go in to win, you’re coming in with full confidence.”
Not surprisingly, Guerrero said he’s not scared at all. Instead, he said he’s excited the fight he’s been waiting for since he started boxing is finally going to happen.
But Guerrero hasn’t forgotten the Gilroy fans who have supported him throughout his career. He said he thanks them for their support and added, “I’m finally here.”
“I have a chance to fulfill my goals and go down in the record books as a world champ,” Guerrero said, adding that he would be Gilroy’s first boxing champion.
As for what the future holds after this fight, Guerrero said he’s not thinking about that right now. There’s many avenues he can take after the fight ends, but whichever one he takes, he said he’ll have the championship belt with him.
