Pilots’ association to give out flight lesson money
Would-be pilots in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties have a
chance to earn some money for flight training or an aviation

awarding three $1,000 scholarships June 12.

Would-be pilots in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties have a chance to earn some money for flight training or an aviation maintenance program. The members of the South County Airport Pilots Association – which meets at South County Airport in San Martin – will be awarding three $1,000 scholarships June 12.

“These scholarships are being offered to not only high school students, but also to adults, embarking on aviation and aircraft maintenance as a career,” said Mark Sochan, the president of SCAPA. “We see this as an opportunity that will benefit general aviation needs such as the training of new pilots and aircraft maintenance technicians.

Applications are due May 31. Criteria for the scholarships include motivation, achievement and financial need. The selection committee will include members of the SCAPA board of directors as well as community members.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 16 years or older and a resident of Santa Clara or San Benito Counties. The application requires a one-to-two page background letter; a list of school, work or community activities; activities and experiences related to aviation; life goals and how the scholarship will benefit the applicant.
