Editor,

Recently I have been asked why I have been so quiet. I responded that I am exasperated with the current state of affairs and have been so for quite some time now, however, today I have something to say. Here is what I wish for the upcoming election. I wish for everyone to run a decent campaign without slandering your opponent. Stick to the issues that helped you to decide you wanted to run, don’t run out of spite but from a sincere gesture; the love of your community. Most importantly, be objective. I know that I have had to re-think the whole growth thing since Measure G and the City’s moratorium. If you don’t have the ability to see both sides of an issue then you should not be running for office. I have had to work on this and it’s not always easy but it is possible. I have always said that we need more people to choose from when election time comes so I am always thrilled when we have new faces to choose from and this is what prompts we to write to the citizenry and candidates today. If we bash everyone that runs for office because we don’t agree with them it doesn’t give citizens much incentive to run for these important positions. Instead of bashing a candidate just don’t vote for them and keep your unpleasantness to yourself. I could do some bashing after working and observing the local scene for almost three decades, however, I choose to make my statement at the ballot box and occasionally at a public hearing. Whatever happened to respect for community leaders and some of you are just downright hateful and it needs to stop. In closing I want to thank all the sincere candidates and whether I agree with you or not you have my respect for getting involved.
