Vietnam Veteran Vince Luna waves to the crowd as he rides down San Benito Street during the Veterans Day Parade in 2014.

Hollister resident Vincent Garcia Luna is one of four people recognized by Assemblyman Luis Alejo as recipients of the 2015 California Peace Award, according to a press release from the representative’s office.
“It is my honor to recognize these truly remarkable individuals, who have made it their mission to promote peace throughout all of our communities,” said Alejo in the statement. “It’s everyday heroes like them who help keep our neighborhoods safe.”
Alejo, D-Salinas, represents the 30th Assembly District that includes San Benito, Monterey, Santa Clara and parts of Santa Cruz counties. The award is given to individuals within the district who made a significant contribution to increase community safety and prevent violence in the past year.
Luna was recognized for going “above and beyond” expectations to ensure students in San Benito County continue on a path of education, according to the press release. He is a Youth Council advisor for the League of United Latin American Citizens. Luna also emphasized the importance of community service in maintaining a peaceful environment, according to the statement.
Luna will be recognized at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Hollister as part of National Night Out, an evening focused on building community between law enforcement officers and residents.
