Editor,

Living just outside San Diego gives me a chance to step back and see the trees instead of the forest. During the rally, your town was extremely friendly and open. I traveled nine hours one way and spent three full days only to leave because your event was over.

I talked to several persons (locals) and they were helpful with directions, restaurants, roads to explore the beautiful Northern California scenery and roads to avoid. I saw many more people drinking bottled water than beer. I saw a very happy group just excited to see others that share a common interest and hobby, than I did the gangs that this type of function will attract. My wife and I were safer there than we are at an NFL football game.

Drunk drivers are a danger to every sane person, motorcycle rider or not. Sobriety checkpoints would be a good idea to help ensure the safety of everyone on the second busiest drinking day of the year. It’s the drunk drivers not the average biker who are the problem. I hope your city continues this tradition, My wife and I look forward to returning for many years.
