A Hollister woman was hospitalized after she accidentally drove her car into the side of a Ridgemark home Tuesday afternoon.

A 1997 Honda driven by Beverly Blake, 79, struck the front of a home at 640 South Ridgemark Drive owned by John Vail at about 1:20 p.m. Tuesday when Blake mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal, the California Highway Patrol said.

Blake was traveling at an estimated 25 mph along Duffin Drive, the CHP said, when her car surged and went over an island in the middle of the street. It jumped the curb in front of Vail’s home, struck a concrete planter box and went through some shrubbery before coming to rest against the front of Vail’s home.

Blake was taken to Hazel Hawkins Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and later released.

Vail’s home received only minor damage.
