SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

With their league schedule about to increase in difficulty, the Anzar High girls soccer team picked up one last morale-boosting win when they easily defeated visiting Marina 12-0 Wednesday in San Juan Bautista.

In their last two games, the Hawks have outscored both Marina and Calvary Christian by a combined 19-0 margin.

On Wednesday against Marina, though, Anzar’s Jocelyn Sicairos and Shelby Keldson each pocketed three-goal hat trick’s, while Brianna McCain and Michelle Chatley each added two goals apiece.

Hawks Jenny Lavarone and Erin Deleissegues both scored one goal each in the dominating victory.

“The ball in the second half didn’t even come down to our goalie,” Anzar head coach Albert Flores said. “Just very lopsided.”

The Hawks improve to 5-0-2 in the Coastal Athletic League, 5-3-3 overall.

With three games remaining in the league schedule, second-place Anzar should have their hands full with Pacific Collegiate, York and Gonzales.

The Hawks will face off against Pacific Collegiate Friday in Santa Cruz. Flores said he will be without three players for that game due to other commitments.

“The girls kind of know that if they win, we have a good chance (of qualifying for the section playoffs),” Flores said. “We’re gonna try and win and put up a good fight.”

Game time is 3:30 p.m.
