25-16

Playing to coach Chris Wardlaw’s mantra of “beautiful volleyball,” the Anzar Hawks swept past a visiting Monte Vista Christian squad Wednesday night and upped their record to a game above .500.

Anzar beat MVC 25-15, 25-9, 25-16 and improved to 4-3 on the year.

“It was a team win. All 13 girls played,” Wardlaw said.

Although MVC is coming off a season in which they went 10-0 in the Monterey Bay League, they did lose approximately nine to 10 players this year, Wardlaw said.

“The good news is that we didn’t fall into their pace and energy,” Wardlaw said. “The girls passed it well and ran their offense. I was very pleased.”

Kerstin Tuning had a team-high 29 assists and four aces for Anzar, while Erin Deleissegues contributed nine kills and three aces. Nicole Mello had eight kills and Brianna McCain recorded five kills.

“They really did play beautiful volleyball,” Wardlaw said.

Anzar will play at Scotts Valley Friday at 6 p.m.
