Political newcomers and longtime businessmen Jerry Muenzer and Phil Fortino appear ready to challenge Monaco, who will seek his third four-year term on the board.
In the sheriff’s race, Undersheriff Patrick Turturici, promoted to the office’s No. 2 role in 2005, and Marshal Robert Scattini, who served a term as sheriff starting in 1983, both have pulled the appropriate papers to submit signatures in lieu of filing fees. Those are due back about a month from now.
In the other races so far, District Attorney Candice Hooper, District 3 Supervisor Pat Loe, Clerk/Recorder/Auditor Joe Paul Gonzalez, Assessor Tom Slavich, schools Superintendent Mike Sanchez and Treasurer/Tax Collector Mary Lou Andrade all have indicated intentions to seek office again.
